Obituary for Bobby Gene Charles

Bobby Gene Charles
Bobby Gene Charles, age 89 of Kirksville, MO passed away at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, MO on Saturday, September 22, 2018.

Bob was born in Kirksville, MO on March 24, 1929 the son of Wendell Charles and Opal (Williams) Charles. On July 6, 1955, Bob married Elma Jean Moine in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Grace Charles, and a great granddaughter, Lily Cepin, brothers in law, Merle Phillips, Bill Sutton and Alvin Moine.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jean, and children; Tia Beth Silvey and husband Sam, Springville, UT, Robert Charles and wife LeeAnne, Cleveland, TN, Gina Moran and husband Dennis, Kirksville, MO, Sam Treece and husband Joe, Kirksville, MO. Grandchildren, Caleb and Heather Silvey, Lenna and Scott Hiatt, Nathan and Kirsta Silvey, Laura and Wesley Cepin, Bobby Gene Charles II, Marie Charles, Breanna and Dan Farris, Lindsey and Tim Speer, Tyrel and Natalie Moran, Adam and Marsha Treece, Jacob and Jillian Treece, Jeremiah and Brandi Treece, 29 great-grandchildren, one sister, Joan Sutton; one brother, Billy Charles and wife, Connie; one sister in law, Wilma Dean Phillips along with several nieces and nephews.

Bob served our country in the United States Army from 1948 – 1951 and went to Korea. His “army buddies” were friends for life, as well as their families. He co-owned and operated Charles Bros. Repair Service and had a 24-hour wrecker service for over 40 years. In the evenings when the garage was closed, was the time for friends and music. The jukebox was playing, or musicians would stop in with their guitars. He enjoyed going to the Fort Madison Rodeo with his friends each year and had an annual trip to Florida with Jean. He also followed NASCAR racing. He loved country music and was always asked to come on stage and sing “Mountain Dew” for the crowd. If you were a friend, he had a nickname for you! He loved anything chocolate, especially cake and ice cream. Before his illness he attended the Church of Nazarene, was a member of the Loyal order of the Moose Lodge, and VFW.

Bob’s wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Moose Lodge, Kirksville, MO. A private burial will be at the State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri with full honors.

Memorials may be sent to Knox County Nursing home at 55774 MO-6, Edina, MO 63537 or a Disabled American Veteran (DAV) of your choice.
